Ann R Pratt

Ann Reneau (Suhre) Pratt, 75, of Windsor, CO, passed peacefully on Wednesday, July 31st, surrounded by her loving family.

Ann was born in Colorado Springs, CO, on April 25, 1944, to Orville Wild Suhre and Elizabeth Nason (Dow) Suhre. She graduated from Wasson High School in 1962. She received an Associate of Arts degree from Cottey College in Nevada, MO, in 1964, and completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in French in 1966 at the University of Colorado in Boulder. Ann met her future husband Bill in a geology class in the spring of 1965. In the summer of 1968, she realized her long-time dream of spending a year in France and studying French at the Université de Paris (La Sorbonne). She returned from France to marry Bill on July 26, 1969, at her parents’ home in Monument, CO.

After beginning their life together in Walsh, CO, where both were employed by the school district, Ann and Bill moved to Windsor in 1971. Their son, Kevin Douglas, was born on December 3rd of that year. Daughter, Carrie Ann Elizabeth, completed the family, arriving on August 21st of 1974. When her children reached school age, Ann began a 20-year career with Windsor School District RE-4 as a Career Education Specialist. In 1980 she was a founding member of the Windsor Community Playhouse and continued her involvement throughout the remainder of her life, fulfilling a variety of roles. She dedicated countless hours to perfecting her roles, be it as an actress, a director, or a producer. She also made major contributions working behind the scenes and promoting the playhouse. WCP was her passion, and she loved her WCP family.

Ann became a member of PEO in 1964 and was an active member of Chapter U, in Windsor beginning in 1971. She was involved in a wide variety of social organizations in Windsor including Windsor Book Club, a Bunco group, a breakfast club, and several bridge groups. She was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church of Windsor where she sang in the choir and also served as choir director for several years. She served a 7-year term with the Windsor Community Foundation. She and Bill were named Grand Marshals of the Windsor Harvest Festival Parade in 1999, in recognition of their commitment to the Windsor community over the years.

Outside of her involvement in community activities and her passion for participating in community theater, Ann enjoyed spending her leisure time with family. A particular pleasure was watching and supporting her grandchildren in their sports and musical activities. She enjoyed traveling, cooking, reading, doing crossword puzzles, crocheting, following the Denver Broncos and the Colorado Rockies, and attending concerts and professional theater productions.

She took pleasure in cooking for her family and making jams, jellies and other specialties. She gained a reputation within her family for making the best potato salad on the planet. She earned numerous blue ribbons in the Windsor Harvest Festival Home and Garden Show. She was an accomplished seamstress and proudly made quilts and bathrobes for each of her five grandchildren in addition to creating much of her own wardrobe.

She especially loved traveling with family and friends. During her lifetime, she visited 49 of the 50 states and traveled to more than 20 countries in Europe, Central America, and South America. Her favorite destinations were France, Italy, and Costa Rica. Ann and Bill celebrated fifty years of marriage with both of their children and their families with a trip to Costa Rica at the beginning of July, 2019. Many precious memories were created during this very special trip.

Ann is preceded in death by her parents Orville Wild Suhre and Elizabeth Nason (Dow) Suhre. She is survived by husband William “Bill” Pratt of Windsor; son Kevin Douglas Pratt of Kenosha, Wisconsin, and daughter Carrie Ann Elizabeth Schmitz (Stephen) of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; brother Dr. E. Dow Suhre (Kay Matthews) of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and sister Elizabeth “Betsy” Suhre Bullard (Mike) of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; her grandchildren Caroline Rosalihn, Mary Reneau, and William Henrichs “Henry” Pratt of Kenosha, Wisconsin, and Tanner James and Taylor Ann Marie Schmitz of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; and 6 nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 503 Walnut Street, Windsor, Colorado.
