Daniel R. Downing of Timnath, Colorado, passed away on March 13, 2025 at Pathways Hospice Inpatient Care Center in Fort Collins, following a long illness. He was born on January 12, 1950, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and was the son of Dr. John S. and Betty Jean Downing. He graduated from Washington Senior High School in Cedar Rapids, the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley and from Iowa State university where he was awarded a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1976.
He was passionate about music, having played in high school and college bands and numerous worship teams during his adult life. He loved the outdoors, country living and old cars. As a child he raced go-carts with his siblings, and as an adult he raced speed boats and owned several sports cars. His other overriding passion was for his Lord Jesus Christ, who he loved and worshipped throughout his life.
His professional adventures took him to the Gulf Coast of Florida, Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha, NE, Iowa State University, The Navajo Indian Reservation, the University of Iowa, Flagstaff, Arizona, Two Guns, Arizona and finally northern Colorado.
He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his siblings, Dr. David Downing (Belinda) of Dallas, Texas; Diane Lewis of Marion, Iowa; Douglas Downing of Marion, Iowa, his wife of 53 years, Carol (Talbott) Downing; sons Russell (Meghan) of Timnath, Colorado; John (Amanda) of Grandview, Missouri; and seven grandchildren.
A family celebration was held in his honor.
