Dean Roger Brown passed away on June 30, 2021, at McKee Medical Center.
Dean was born on September 12, 1929, in Omaha, Nebraska. He went to the University of Nebraska at Omaha, graduated with a Bachelor of Science in biology, and continued on there for his master’s in botany. Dean served in the Army. After completing his service, he taught in France for over a year at several military bases.
Dean moved to Athens, Georgia, to attend the University of Georgia, where he earned his Ph.D. in microbiology. After graduation, he stayed on as a faculty member for several years until he moved to Fort Collins, Colorado, in 1967 to teach at Colorado State University in the education department. Dean taught students how to be science teachers for 35 years. It was his passion. Past students remark that Dean “lit up the classroom and inspired so many.” He was an author of several books and was the recipient of the Oliver P. Pennock distinguished service award at CSU.
While teaching was his passion in life, his other love was family. He was a devoted father and grandfather and is survived by his two daughters, Deena Koessl and Leanne Johnston, his son-in-laws, and four grandchildren.
