Dolores Ruth Hergert

March 14, 1932 — July 4, 2023

Greeley

Dolores Ruth Hergert, 1932-2023, was born in Russell, Kansas to John and Molly (Martin) Schneider. Dolores lived in the Windsor/Severance area for 88 years. She attended Windsor High School where she was valedictorian and Duchess of Windsor. She graduated in 1950, briefly attended UNC, business school, and worked for George Tozer in the Windsor School District. In 1952 Dolores married her high school sweetheart, Donald Eugene Hergert, who preceded her in death in 2015. She spent years being the wife of a farmer and adding members to their family. Dolores and Don had five children: Carrie, Alan, Lisa, Paula, and Steven. When four of the five children were in school, Dolores went to work for the Windsor School District and remained an employee for 25 years. In all her extra time (yes, that is a joke!), Dolores was involved in numerous community organizations and church activities. She was a member of the Windsor Garden Club, Severance Progressive Club, and Germans from Russia. Dolores loved Bethel Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir starting at age 14,  taught Sunday School, attended and led Bible studies, made homemade noodles, and visited the elderly’ when she herself was in her 80’s! She was an avid gardener, had a prize rose garden, was a gracious and generous hostess – everyone was welcome at her table and in her home. Her family has fond memories of spending time with Dolores in her kitchen making jam, cinnamon rolls, ‘spudnut’ donuts, ‘rival kuchen’, Christmas cookies, and thousands of family meals. Dolores enjoyed playing bridge with numerous friends up until the day of her passing. Her children got a huge chuckle when their Mom called to say, “I was high at bridge today,” (since we live in Colorado). But, Dolores’s greatest love and passion was for her children, grandchildren, and great-grand-children. She was a kind, loving, and devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.

Dolores is survived by her five children: Carrie Hartman, Alan Hergert (Tracy Hergert), Lisa Dahl, Paula Hergert (Tina Kristofek), Steven Hergert, and their families.
