Dixie Lee, age 73, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday July 7, 2019. She was born on January 25, 1946 in Keokuk, Iowa to Francis Whiteside and Betty Irene Elmore. She was adopted by Cliff and Ruby VanDorin. She started working at age 14 in various jobs throughout her teenage years. One of her proudest accomplishments was earning her diamond certification. She also helped run a family concession business, Hoffman House for many years. Dixie was well known throughout the community working in various restaurants around town. Dixie was also a fixture at the Friendship Feast held every Christmas for 27 years in Greeley. She thoroughly enjoyed helping to provide a free Christmas meal to the less fortunate. Dixie loved her yard and took special care to decorate it and the house with each passing season. To say she was an avid reader would diminish her love of books. She attended book sales throughout the area and after reading each one she would then pass them on to friends & family throughout the country. She was also an active member of Bethel Lutheran church.
On July 4, 1975 she married Glen Randall Hoffman. Together they shared four children. They enjoyed traveling and spending time with family. He preceded her in death on March 7, 2001.
She met David Morrissey and they were joined in union March 21, 2004. They were rarely seen apart and enjoyed sharing new adventures to locations far and wide. He preceded her in death on April 16, 2015.
She is survived by brother Delmar VanDorin; sisters Chal’e (Bob) Bolin & Patricia Whiteside; daughter Lenise Veno (Troy Johnson), son Deon (Kimberly) Tippit, and daughter-in-law Nancy Hoffman. She is also survived by granddaughters Danyel Schroeder (Isaac Redin) & Heather (Dusty) Hughes; grandsons Brent Hoffman, Sean (Rhiannon) Ryan, Erick Hoffman, Frank Runyan & Paul Phillips. She has 15 great-grandchildren. Dixie also has extended family and friends across the country.
In addition to her husbands she is preceded in death by her lifelong best friend Mandy Mohrfeld; her parents; sisters Dorothy Johnson, Mitzie Wyrick, & Lynn Whiteside; brother Glen Wyrick; stepson Glen Rickey Hoffman; stepdaughter Geneva Phillips; grandson Glen Robert Hoffman and great-granddaughter Kaelynn Kaump.
