Donovan Lee Smith

Donovan Lee Smith died May 22, 2024 at his home in Windsor, Colorado. Donovan was born on June 22, 1969 in Van Nuys, California to Peter Woodruff and Laura Lee Haubach. In the late 1970’s Laura married Eldon Smith in Windsor, who adopted Donovan and his sister Alicia. Who now had 3 brothers, Darren, Albert and Shawn.

He attended schools in Windsor. He was always interested in music, and played in the high school marching band. During this time he joined a band put together by some fellow classmates. They were known as Shockmononoff. They even had a concert that was held in the Park building. Which was the former elementary school that Donovan and his band mates attended as children. He continued to play in the band beyond high school.

Later he became a house painter and eventually had his own painting business. He then joined a band called Dysorder. They played great local venues such as the Aggie and Mishawaka. Donovan loved music of all genres, his bandmates and his guitars. He eventually stopped playing in the band but remained close friends with his bandmates. He continued to play his bass guitar. He taught himself to play the acoustic guitar, and most recently decided to learn the electric guitar.

He had a huge circle of friends that he committed his life to. There are 
too many to mention by name. They  loved his playful spirit, his personality and his slightly “off” sense of humor and his great laugh.

He is preceded in death by his grandmother Mary, both of his fathers, mother, sister Alicia and brother Darren. And Newstead the Great Dane. He is survived by his beautiful daughters Audrey, Danielle, Melissa, and Alyssa. Also, his niece Lynnea. Grandchildren, Brenton and Remington, Xander and Leigha, who has a brother or sister on the way. Great nephew Lucca and great niece Luna, who is soon to be born.  His brothers Albert and Shawn Smith. And Newstead’s brother, Burton the Great Dane.

And Wendy Konieczny his partner of 14 years. She loved him deeply and unconditionally. Even putting up with his “slightly off” sense of humor that he liked to display at the most inopportune moments.

A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life followed by a reception will be held at the American Legion Post 109  624 Ash St in Windsor, Colorado on June 15th from 2pm-6pm. Cards and flowers can be delivered ahead of time to Wendy Konieczny at 764 Durum St Windsor Co 80550. Food will be provided along with lots of music. Please bring pictures and plenty of memories to share! Wendy is asking that you wear a concert t-shirt, maybe one that you saw together, or a favorite band of his or yours.
