Edna Weitzel May 3, 1922 – January 8, 2025
Edna Weitzel of Greeley, Colorado passed away peacefully January 8, 2025, at UC Health in Greeley at the age of 102.
She was born on May 3, 1922, in Windsor, Colorado to Henry and Annie Propp (Clouse). She attended Windsor School until the eighth grade. Later she received her GED at the age of 40.
Edna married Ben Weitzel on July 29, 1939, in Harrisburg, Nebraska. They had two children, a son and a daughter. They lived on farms in Fort Collins and Timnath until 1963 when they moved to Windsor. In 1970 they moved to Fort Collins where Edna lived for 45 years.
Edna worked as the School Lunch Manager at Boxelder School, Timnath School, and Riffenberg School in Fort Collins until her retirement in 1986.
Edna was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church in Windsor. She volunteered there with her sister, Henrietta. They belonged to the ladies group of the church that made homemade noodles, butter balls, and angel food cake which they sold at the annual Harvest Festival. Along with being a great cook, she was also an excellent seamstress and quilter. She made well over 100 quilts, one of which is still hanging at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Windsor today.
In 2015 Edna moved to The Bridge in Greeley where she remained active throughout her years there. She played bingo, left/right, read books, went for walks, spent time with family, and quilted until the age of 97.
Edna was proud of her family and loved spending time with them. She is survived by her son, Ben and his wife Frieda of Brush, Colorado, and her daughter Marilyn Lewis of Evans, Colorado. She is also survived by four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren.
Edna was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, all seven of her siblings (Theodore, Robert, Fritz, Henry, Helen, Lilah, and Henrietta), and one grandson.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
