Ellenora Helena (Adam) Todahl was born in Stutsman County, North Dakota on January 12, 1929 to Edwin and Christina Henke Adam. She passed away on October 29, 2022 in her home at the age of 93. She attended rural schools in Stutsman County and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1946. She taught in rural one room schools in Stutsman and Barnes Counties. Ellenora attended Valley City State College and received a degree in Elementary Education. She then taught at the Crippled Children’s School (now known as the Anne Carlson Center) in Jamestown and Horace Mann Elementary in Fargo. She married Oscar Todahl on June 8, 1952. She then taught school in Montpelier, Esmond and Leeds where her husband was a Northern Pacific Agent Telegrapher. She purchased and operated the Tastee Freez in Leeds for over 20 years. She was known for her famous caramel rolls and cooking specialty meals for those with dietary restrictions. In 1987, Oscar and Ellenora relocated to Lake Havasu City, AZ due to Oscar’s health. He passed away in 1992. She continued to reside in Lake Havasu and worked at The London Bridge Resort and The Holiday Inn. In November 2017, she moved to an Independent Living Apartment at Good Samaritan in Windsor, CO to be closer to her daughter.
Ellenora was on the Leeds School Board and also served as its President. She was active in the Leeds Lutheran Church and its women’s group and taught Sunday School. She was a member of the Eastern Star, was active in both ND and Arizona, and was a Past Matron and served as District Deputy, Grand Ruth and Grand Electa in the North Dakota Grand Chapter. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary and Eagles Auxiliary.
Ellenora traveled to all 50 states and several foreign countries in her lifetime. She was a very active lady and attended as many of her Grandchildren’s activities as she was able. She played pinochle in groups both in Lake Havasu and at Good Samaritan. She was a woman of strong faith and was very active in the Chapel, serving on committees and attending most of the outings that Good Samaritan activities department offered. She was always ready to lend a helping hand and assisted many of her neighbors who were younger than she was! Her energy, generosity and heart defied her age.
Survivors include her daughter, Kristi Greenfield, Windsor, CO; sons, Douglas (Cheryl) Todahl , West Chester, OH and Scott Todahl, Leeds, ND; Grandchildren, Brendan Todahl, Columbus, OH, Aaron Todahl, Cincinnati, OH and Corinne Todahl, Batavia, OH, Michelle (Phil) Thomas, Fargo, ND, Traci Todahl (Didier Hirwantwari), Kettering, OH. Nieces Cheryl (Perry) Colebank, Fort Collins, CO, Stephanie (Ed) Van Beek, Pollock, SD and Doreen Sorlie, Devils Lake, ND. Nephew Jay (Mary) Adam, Langdon, ND. Great Grandchildren, Caleb Thomas, Fargo, ND and Maddox West, Kettering, OH. Also surviving are Step grandchildren Richard (Amanda) Greenfield and Erica (Phillip) Hutton, Leander, TX and Emily (Roberto) Astacio, Liberty Township, OH and Jeff (Shayla) Nilson, Columbus, OH. Step-great grandchildren, Connor and Allison Greenfield and Brodie and Kinzie Hutton; Anderson, Christian, Cameron and Hamilton Astacio and Chandler and Sterling Nilson.
Ellenora was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Oscar Todahl, son and daughter-in-law, Arden and Dee Todahl, son-in-law Gary Greenfield, brothers and sister-in-law Elton and Dorothy Adam and Leroy and Beverly Adam. Sisters-in-law Ella (Chester Lalum) and Doris (Arnold) Sorlie. Brothers-in-law Clarence Todahl, Lloyd Todahl and nephews Terry Adam, Dayton Sorlie and Carroll Lalum.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 on Nov 17, 2022 in the Chapel at Good Samaritan in Windsor, CO. Cremation has taken place and internment will be at Lake Havasu Memorial Gardens, Lake Havasu City, AZ.
Memorials are preferred to the Anne Carlson Center, 701 3rd St NW, Jamestown, ND 58402 or other organization of your choice.
