Frederick “Fred” David Cowley, age 65, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2024. Born in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada, Fred lived in Alberta for many years before settling in Windsor, Colorado, where he enjoyed the last 14 years of his life.
Fred was a passionate golfer, skilled clubmaker, dedicated coach, loving husband, and father. His love for sports, especially hockey, golf, and baseball, was well known. In his younger years, he was an accomplished hockey player and later became deeply involved in golf, a sport he cherished. Fred also devoted many years to coaching hockey, guiding and mentoring his sons, Jonathon and Jack, and many other young players.
Fred pursued his education in Turfgrass Management at Fairview College in Alberta, which led to a fulfilling career. He worked for many years at Kananaskis Golf and Country Club before moving to Calgary, where he started his own company, Ace Clubworks, specializing in custom golf clubs. This business became his life’s work, reflecting his deep love for the game and craftsmanship.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Karen, and his sons, Jonathon (Fable) and Jack (Miranda). Fred was the cherished son of Capt. John and Bridget Cowley. He is also survived by his siblings, Bob and Anne, and is predeceased by his parents and siblings John and Sheila.
Fred was known for his vibrant personality and infectious humor. Always the life of the party, he had a unique gift for making people laugh and was renowned as one of the world’s great storytellers. His ability to captivate an audience with his tales and his joyous spirit will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life will be held on August 10, 2024, at 11 AM at Marks Funeral Home in Windsor, CO. Further gatherings to celebrate Fred’s life will be held at later dates in Calgary, Alberta, and Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, where friends and family can come together to remember and honor him.
Fred will be remembered for his love of life, dedication to his family and friends, and passion for sports. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
The family has requested people dress in golf attire or business casual. Thank you for joining us in honoring Fred.
