George Carman

May 8, 1937 — December 20, 2024

Windsor

George R. Carman, age 87, died peacefully on December 20, 2024 surrounded by family in Windsor, Colorado. George was born May 8, 1937 in Valley City, North Dakota to Emory and Mary Carman. George attended Bismarck High School, graduating in 1955 and subsequently attained a Bachelor’s degree at Valley City State College, having attended college on a football scholarship.

George married his high school sweetheart, Bonnie Lee Wahl, on July 21, 1956. They remained in a loving marriage until her death on December 20, 2018. George served in the Army National Guard from 1954 until he was honorably discharged in 1962. George worked in the insurance and banking industries most of his professional life, including General Adjustment Bureau in Sioux Falls and Mobridge, South Dakota; Garrison Insurance Agency in Garrison, North Dakota; Citizen’s State Bank in Rugby, North Dakota; and ultimately retired in 2018 from Bellingham State Bank in Bellingham, Minnesota, where he served as President.

George was well-loved for his integrity, wit, kindness and generosity. He was more of a listener than a talker. During his early adulthood, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing and playing softball. During his later years, he also enjoyed playing cards, and watching James Bond movies and the Dallas Cowboys. George and Bonnie were fortunate to have lake homes, first at Lake Metigoshe, North Dakota and later at Rose Lake, Minnesota. They enjoyed spending summers at the lake with their two daughters and eventually their four grandsons.

After Bonnie’s passing in 2018, George relocated to Windsor, Colorado to be near to his daughters and grandsons. While George missed his many friends in North Dakota and Minnesota, he did not miss those midwest winters! George was preceded in death by his parents, nine siblings, and his loving wife, Bonnie. He is survived by his two daughters, Jessica Carman Hager (Don) and Jolene Carman Blair (Jim), grandsons Samuel, Karl, Colten and Adam, and two great grandchildren, Brynn and Beau. He was a loving son, brother, husband, father and grandfather, and will be dearly missed.

A private Celebration of Life will be held by his family in his honor.
