George Evans Jarboe, known affectionately as Butch or Papaw, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2024, in Ft. Collins, Colorado, at the age of 84. Born on March 19, 1940, in El Paso, Texas, George was an outstanding father who loved his family dearly. He was a great leader, storyteller, and teacher who enjoyed life to the fullest.
George, a Navy Petty Officer First Class (E-6), served 7 years on submarines as an electrician. After his military service, he dedicated 27 years to the Kodak company, where he played a pivotal role in designing a new robotics system for film production. Even in retirement, George continued to work in construction, building and remodeling homes.
An Army "brat" who traveled extensively during his childhood, George attended numerous schools before graduating from Francis C. Hammond High School and later earned a Master's degree from West Texas State University in the School of Business, Data Processing.
In his free time, George was an avid fisherman and loved catching Browns on a river. He was
passionate about his motorcycles and racing in trials and enduros. He won two Rocky Mountain Enduro Circuit championships for enduro racing, achieving his second state championship win
at the impressive age of 60. He was also a dedicated Boy Scout leader to his son and troop. He loved camping, fishing, and spending time at “the lot” in Crystal Lakes, where he would challenge anyone to a game of cribbage or bocce ball. He would also help with branding season
at his sisters ranch in New Mexico, as well as visit every Thanksgiving as a family tradition.
George will be deeply missed by his daughter, Teresa Heikes, son, Jason Jarboe; grand children Clayton, Madalyn, Morgan, Kara, and Kyle. Preceded in death: his beautiful wife of 50 years, Jenny Lynne “Doll” Jarboe, his father Jesse James Jarboe, mother Dorothy Mae “Hackerott” Jarboe, sister Dee Ann “Jarboe” McCarty, and
