James Herbst

James Allan Herbst, 80, of Greeley, Colorado passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, May 14, 2024. Jim was born on August 9, 1943 in Greeley, Colorado to Daniel and Minna Herbst. He grew up in the Bracewell area with his brother Gary, where his parents owned and operated The Bracewell Store. He attended school in Bracewell and Windsor, and graduated from Windsor High School in 1961. On March 7, 1971 he married the love of his life, Janet Bruntz.

Jim served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army as a Petroleum Products Lab Mobile Technician. He worked various jobs including; farming, Wright and McGill, Steffens Market and Steele’s Market (as a meat cutter), and retired in 2020 from Wal-Mart. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his wife Jan. He loved and was proud of his three children; Tim, Deni, and Chrissy, and he treasured his three grandsons; Logan, Asher, and Lukyn.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents Daniel and Minna Herbst, his brother Gary Herbst, and his grandson Hayden Jack.

Jim is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jan, his children Tim (Cori) Herbst, Denise (Tracy) Hessler, and Chrissy (Ryan) King, and his grandsons Logan Herbst, Asher King, and Lukyn King. He is also survived by step grandchildren Ryan (Lynsi) Hessler and Nicole (Lance) Perkins, four step great-grandchildren, and many extended family and friends.

Private funeral services will be held.
