James Skrdlant

James Gerhard Skrdlant, 90, of Loveland passed away late Friday evening March 22, 2024 at his home. Jim was born on April 4, 1933, on his grandparent’s, Gerhard and Nellie Egging, farm east of Gurley, NE. to James Edward and Alice (Egging) Skrdlant. He graduated from Saint Patrick's Academy in Sidney NE. in 1951. Jim had worked at The Sidney Telegraph since he was 12 years old, starting out sweeping floors and delivering supplies. He then became a “Printers Devil”, working his way up to running a WEB press. During the Korean War, Jim was drafted into the Army on May 12, 1953, and was honorable discharged on May 10, 1955. Jim completed his basic training at Ft. Riley, KS, and then he was assigned to B Company 21st Combat Engineers, stationed at Camp Hale completing mountain and cold weather training and survival. On May 30, 1959, he married Kathryn Lorene Pierson at Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sidney, NE. Jim, Kathy, and the children moved to Loveland, CO. in April 1966. Jim worked for 32 years at Johnson Publishing as a pressman and bindery foreman, retiring in 1998. His hobby was building and flying RC model airplanes. He helped a friend build a SPAD XIII bi-plane with a wing span of seven feet, and a Spirit of Saint Louis airplane. He is a member of the Academy of Model Aeronautics, and the Sterling Miniature Aircraft Association in Sterling, CO. James is survived by his wife Kathryn, sons: Nicholas (Julie) of CO., Todd (Patricia) of CO., Joseph (Kathy) of PA., and daughter Susan (Robert) Graese of AZ. Jim has eight grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, six great- grandchildren, five step great-grandchildren, and two step-great-great-grandchildren. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James and Alice Skrdlant, daughter Jeanne, brothers Stanley (Shari), Walter, Leland (Nancy), Dale Skrdlant, sisters Geraldine (Tim) Simpson, and Nancy Jean (Paul) McGrady. Mass of Christian Burial will be at Saint John the Evangelist Catholic Church on April 12th. Rosary is at 10am, Services at 11am, Reception following. Burial will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Banner Health Hospice or Saint John’s Catholic Church in Loveland.
