Jerry Miller Tobin age 94, died on September 15, 2024, in Brighton, Colorado. He was born in Welasco, Texas to Jannie Bell and Harold Whetstone Tobin. Jerry married Doyce on September 3, 1969, in Laramie, Wyoming. They lived in Brighton, Colorado until 1974 when they moved to LaPuente, California.
Jerry was a proud Navy veteran. He served in the Korean War as a Boatswain’s Mate running arresting gear and catapult on the deck of the USS Boxer. He was honorably discharged as a Petty Officer Third Class (BM3) after the Korean War ended. He served two tours in the South Pacific. Jerry spent most of his adult life as a long haul truck driver, driving for a number of national companies and was incredibly proud of his perfect safety record, and driving more than a million miles without an accident.
Upon his retirement in 1992, he and wife, Doyce settled in Windsor, Colorado where they enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting. Jerry enjoyed working in his shop, tinkering with tools and spending time with friends and family. He was physically fit and worked out at his neighborhood gym well into his 80’s. His dedication to staying active and engaged kept him vibrant and connected to his community.
Jerry was an amateur genealogist and enjoyed learning about computers, he often explored online databases, connecting fascinating stories from the past. Through his passion for genealogy and technology, Jerry not only connected with his roots but also fostered connections among his friends and family creating a lasting legacy of curiosity and community. Above all else, Jerry cherished making memories with his family, whether it was playing cards, telling stories, teaching his grand kids how to fish or making a mean Vodka Gimlet, he always made time for his family and will be missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother John, his son Martin and his wife of over 50 years, Doyce.
Survivors include his daughter Agatha Ann (Robert) Ferguson, son, Timothy; daughter-in-law, Elaine Rowe; grandchildren Theresa and (Braidy) Boen and Martin TJ Rowe; Great-grandchildren Lance Kohl (Gina) and Jillian (Jeasse Scheatzle) and 4 great grandchildren, Logan, Rosabelle, Adalind and ClaraElaine.
