Karen Jean Sharpee
November 1, 1944 – December 14, 2022
Karen Jean Sharpee passed away on December 14, 2022 in Loveland, Colorado, with her husband Donald by her side. She was born November 1, 1944 in Carthage, South Dakota to Ralph and Dorothy Windedahl. Karen spent her childhood on a farm by Lake Thompson, near Carthage, South Dakota. She had a horse that she loved and worked with her brothers on the family farm, including driving a tractor from a very young age. The family moved to Union Grove, Wisconsin when she was in high school. Karen married her high-school sweetheart, Donald Sharpee, in September 1963 in Union Grove, Wisconsin. She graduated from Beauty School and worked for a few years as a beautician.
Karen and Donald moved to their dream state of Colorado in 1973, living in Windsor, Colorado since 1977. They had 3 children and were loving and dedicated parents who were always there for their kids. Karen was known for her amazing cooking and baking – always making everything from scratch. She was a talented seamstress and made lots of clothes for her children and even blue jeans for Donald! She also knitted blankets, hats, and scarves and crocheted afghans for everyone in the family. Karen was always creating things and showing her love through her projects and food. She ran an in-home daycare for many years charging little and giving so much love to those in her care. Karen loved being outdoors and camping, hiking, and skiing were some of her favorite activities when she was younger. She loved animals, and they always had a dog, cat or bird as part of the family.
Karen is survived by her husband, Donald Sharpee, and their three children: Tamara (Dennis) McKee, Matthew (Keli) Sharpee, and Paula (Brady) Stumpf. She is the beloved grandmother of Caitlin, Connor, Zoe, Creed, Willow, Hailey, Cassidy, Logan and Trinity. Dear sister to Colette (Bob) Baptista and Jerel (Linda) Windedahl and the late Larry (Ross) Windedahl and the late Layne (Jean) Windedahl. Remembered fondly by her many nieces and nephews.
No funeral service is planned at this time; however, a Remembrance of Life will be scheduled at a later date.
