He was raised on a farm with one younger brother, Ted, who passed away in his twenties due to a construction accident. Leonard had a love for baking and at age nineteen, after his mother passed away from cancer, he apprenticed at a bakery, went to culinary school, and later owned and operated his own bakery.
After giving his heart to Jesus, he attended a Bible School in Dallas, TX where he met Muriel Buehler. They married on October 3, 1981 and had three children. She passed away in 2012 from brain cancer, after 30 years of marriage.
In 1986, they moved to Portland, OR, where his father later moved in and passed away of cancer. Leonard and Muriel hosted numerous Japanese exchange students and were very involved in their local church. Leonard worked as a baker at Portland University and later managed a college cafeteria, until they moved to White Salmon, WA in 1996. He worked at the Hood River Inn for 18 years before retiring.
Leonard was diagnosed with cancer in 2006. In asking God for guidance, he was impressed to leave his life and the outcome in God’s Hand. His life was one of peace and calm assurance knowing that God’s ways are best and meant to prepare His people for Heaven. He spent his last 8 years in Windsor, CO enjoying a quiet life, reading his Bible and enjoying unending time with Jesus every day.
Aside from baking cakes and serving others in catering, Leonard’s greatest love was simply for Jesus. He always spent his early mornings and spare time reading his Bible and communing with Jesus. It is not known how many times he read through his Bible.
Leonard is survived by his children; Moriah, Aaron, Shoshana; their spouses, and 5 grandchildren.
