Marilyn Ann Morrice Kurzweil

Loveland, CO - Marilyn A. Morrice Kurzweil passed away on January 1, 2025 at the age of 87. Marilyn was born to Alex & Lorraine Morrice on September 1st, 1937 in Marlette, MI. Marilyn graduated from Marlette High School in 1956, and shortly thereafter she moved to Port Huron to attend Business College, graduating in 1958. Her first job was at a law firm, working as a legal secretary, typing 100 words per minute!

The next stage of Marilyn’s life was the most important and fulfilling, marrying and raising her family of three children. She was an unbelievable cook and homemaker and also spent time gardening with many beautiful flower gardens and one huge vegetable garden. She enjoyed being involved with the kid’sactivities; 4-H, Brownies, Campfire girls, gymnastics, Cub Scouts and baseball. Free time was spent on Lake Huron, with boating and beach time, or in Beards Hills, hiking and canoeing. She served on the Keewahdin Elementary School Board, the PTA, and volunteered at the school library. She was a member of the Port Huron Garden Club and as a devout Christian, she was an active member of the First Congregational Church.

At 40 years old, Marilyn went back to college and graduated Cume Laude from St. Clair County Community College with an Associate’s Degree in Medical Technology. After graduation, she worked at Port Huron Hospital in Medical Records, and lateras a legal secretary at a large insurance company.

After retirement Marilyn moved to Fort Collins, CO to start a new chapter, and to be close to her daughters Susan, Stacey and grandkids, Brooke and Blake. While living in sunny Colorado, Marilyn enjoyed walking, cross-country skiing, snow shoeing, hiking (she summited two 14,000’ mountains in one day), and she volunteered countless hours at Poudre Valley Hospital and Pathways Hospice in Fort Collins. She also enjoyed traveling and twice got to visit far away Morrice cousins, Hugh, Jimmy, and Charlie and their families in Scotland. She traveled to California, Glacier National Park in Montana, Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming, Alaska, the Bahamas, and many trips to Chicago to visit her son Scott, his wife Sheila and grandchildren Jordan, Mitchell and Kendall.

The last few years of her life were spent at Hillcrest of Loveland Senior Living. Her beloved dog Lucci was able to go along, and they both made many good friends. She was surrounded by caring people, we are grateful from the bottom of our hearts for the compassion and empathy of her support team from both Hillcrest of Loveland and Preferred Care at Home.

Marilyn was quiet, yet strong, independent and adventuresome. She was a very caring, understanding, giving, selfless and supportive mother, who loved her children, grandchildren and others passionately. She will be dearly missed by her family and everyone who knew her.

Marilyn was proceeded in death by her parents, Alex and Lorraine Morrice of Marlette, MI and her sister Susan Morrice Gates of Palm Springs, CA. She is survived by her brother Bruce Morrice and his wife, Patricia of Dallas, TX and her daughter Susan Kurzweil of Loveland, CO, her son Scott and daughter in law Sheila Kurzweil of Port Huron, MI., her grandchildren, Jordan and Wife Cassandra Marinez of Steamboat Springs, CO with great grandchildren Kaedynce and Kane, grandson Mitchell Kurzweil of Van Nyes CA., granddaughter Kendall Kurzweil of Brookline, MA, daughter Stacey Bumgarner and companion Michael Moeller of Steamboat Springs, CO., grandson Blake Bumgarner of Mooresville, NC., granddaughter Brooke (Bumgarner) and husband Aaron Kinslow of Fort Collins, CO. and great granddaughter Lilah Rose.
