Matilda A. Martinez-Maxwell, 88, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Feb. 25, 2019 at home in Windsor.
Matilda was born Oct. 13, 1930, to Lee and Eva Martinez in LaSalle. She graduated from Fort Collins High School. On Feb. 5, 1949, she married Richard Maxwell at Holy Family Catholic Church in Fort Collins.
She worked at a local bakery in Fort Collins, Aqua Tech, and for Colorado State University for 20 years.
Matilda belonged to the Altar & Rosary Society at Holy Family Catholic Church, and the Ladies Auxiliary Post 187. She loved fishing and staying in the mountains; especially the Red Feather and Crystal Lakes areas. She also enjoyed going to Estes Park to watch the elk.
Matilda is survived by her children Christine (Jack) Duran, Carol (Steve) Solano, and Bill Maxwell; siblings Gloria Maxwell, Phillip (Carmen) Martinez, and Robert (Roberta) Martinez; 12 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great grandchildren.
Matilda is preceded in death by her parents Lee and Eva Martinez; her husband Richard Maxwell; son Richard (Gordy) Maxwell, daughter Elizabeth Maxwell; and siblings Alonzo Martinez, Daniel Martinez, Santana Moore, Evangeline Mondragon, Anthony Martinez; and Joseph Martinez.
Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 8 at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church in Windsor. Memorial Mass will follow at 11 a.m. with a reception at the church afterwards. Inurnment will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, March 11, at Grandview Cemetery in Fort Collins.
