Olav T. Vik, age 89 of Fort Collins, CO, passed away on October 31, 2024. He was born in Plentywood, MT on May 28, 1935 to Olav and Ingeborg Vik from west of Reserve. He had 4 older siblings- Gudrun, Gertrude, Margaret and Torgeir. They were all raised on the family farm, going to elementary school at Rock Springs School. Olav spent most of 1947 in Norway with his parents, being too young to stay at home. His older siblings ran the farm while they were away. When they got home from Norway, Olav attended 7th and 8th grades in Plentywood, and then spent his high school years in Medicine Lake. While attending high school, he met Oda Winther who would become the love of his life. After graduating, he attended college in Missoula, obtaining a degree in Physics. Immediately after graduating, he returned to Northeast Montana to marry Oda Winther. They moved to Berkeley CA where he earned his doctorate in physics. They moved to Livermore where he began work at the Lawrence Livermore Lab. They were blessed with 3 children- Lori, Bruce and Lynette. In 1979 they moved to Colorado Springs for a change of job. He worked at Kaman Sciences until his retirement in 1990. In 1993 they moved to Fort Collins. Oda and Olav traveled extensively when they were first retired. He enjoyed many hobbies, including singing, playing softball and tennis, coaching many sports, building, reading, researching family heritage and making beautiful scrapbooks. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings- Gudrun Kampen, Margaret Andersen and Torgeir Vik.
He is survived by his sister Gertrude Egeland Sunsted and his 3 children- Lori (Art) Pearson, Bruce (Susan) Vik and Lynette (John) Szantho, 7 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials can be sent to Alzheimer’s Research or Hospice.
