Patricia Jean Jamieson Shutts, 91, of Windsor, Colorado passed away surrounded by her family on June 21, 2024.
She was born on May 22, 1933 in Denver Colorado to Ralph and Dorothy Jamieson and she grew up in Morrison, Colorado where she had an idyllic childhood along with her 2 sisters, Dorothy and Rosie.
She attended Bear Creek High School where she met her future husband, Bill. They were married soon after high school and remained together for 65 years until Bill’s passing in 2018.
It’s hard to talk about Pat without talking about Bill because they were partners in every sense of the word - they lived and worked together side- by-side 24/7/365.
From childhood, Pat had a love for Native American art and culture which she shared with Bill and that developed into a passion for both of them.
Early in their marriage, Pat worked at Montgomery Wards while helping Bill milk their herd of 30 cows. Their first home together was a converted chicken coup complete with dirt floors and a state-of-the art privy.
She and Bill briefly rented a dairy in Ft. Lupton before purchasing a dairy in Windsor Colorado in 1961. They lived there for over 30 years growing their herd to 250 head, and starting a hay cubing business, all while raising their four children. With a busy dairy, it was hard to get away, but she and Bill found time to take the family fishing and camping often. They also began their love of traveling with good friends, and particularly with Art and Agnes Koldeway, when time allowed.
They eventually sold the dairy to get out of the business, which they did, only briefly before partnering in the B & B Dairy in Windsor, and still cubing hay.
In Pat and Bill’s later years, instead of retiring like most sane people, they decided to purchase an 800 head dairy in Wiggins, Colorado. They built a state-of-the-art barn and grew their herd to 2000.
In 2007, they finally decided to sell the dairy and retire permanently.
Pat was queen of multi-tasking! Not only did she work on the dairy, she cooked, cleaned, made the most awesome Halloween costumes, ran meals to the field, got parts for equipment, and chauffeured kids, among her many duties. She was the hardest working woman her family has ever known and always tried to instill that quality in her children and grandchildren as well.
She went out of her way to make every holiday and birthday special for her family.
Pat was selfless, almost to a fault. She never put herself before others, and was generous to so many people and organizations.
Family and friends were extremely important to Pat. Her home was always full with friends and relatives and all of her friendships were meaningful, regardless if they were lifelong or recent relationships.
Pat had many hobbies and interests. She took up golf, ran a 5K, went whitewater rafting, and even tried cross-country skiing.
As her family grew, she enjoyed going to her grandchildren’s many school programs and sporting events. She loved and was very proud of every one of her grandchildren.
Pat was an avid reader and history was her favorite subject. She was never without a stack of books to read. Her family, friends, and the local library had a difficult time keeping her stocked up.
Pat will be missed dearly, but her legacy lives on through her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and all of those who loved her.
Pat is survived by her children Cindy Pedersen (Jim), Clifford Shutts (Robin), Polly Fetzer (Max), and Terry Shutts (Kris); 6 grandchildren – Casey (Nynah), Tessa, Dillon, Tejay (Abbie), Brad, and Levi (Lilian), and 5 great- grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bill, and her sisters Dot and Rosie.
