Penny Colvin-Garren was born on September 9, 1964 in Colorado Springs, CO, to Patrick (Pat) and Hazel
Colvin. She grew up in Palmer Lake, CO until her family moved to Mosca, CO. She graduated from Sangre
De Cristo High School in 1982. She married Jeff DiCamillo in May of 1986 and had two children, Anthony
(Tony) and Alexis. In 1994, she moved outside of La Salle, Co with her family. She and Jeff were divorced
in the spring of 2002 and she moved into the town of La Salle to continue raising her children, then
proceeded to move to Platteville, CO until her children graduated from high school.
She started dating William (Bill) Garren, jr. in 2006 and fell in love with him and his two children, Ashley
and William Garren III. They were married in November of 2006. She was a vibrant person that always
brightened up a room and had a big personality. She watched her two oldest children marry and have
children of their own. She was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in 2019. She never let the treatments
break her spirit. She always had a smile on her face, even when the treatments were hard on her. When
she got bad news, she would say, “I’m going to have a pity party right now, and tomorrow I’m going to
fight.”
Penny attended Aims Community College and graduated with an associates degree in arts to continue on
in becoming a history teacher. She started working for the Denver Post as a newspaper carrier and fell in
love with her job. She went on to become a manager for the Denver Newspaper Agency, then a
distributor. Eventually, she left the newspaper industry and became a customer service representative
for Otterbox, after many years of cultivating life long friends.
Penny was a devoted wife, loving mother and loyal friend. She would always help those in need, whether
it was a shoulder to cry on or covering a newspaper route because of a family emergency. She would
always give great advice and have a cup of coffee ready when someone needed it.
She is survived by her husband, William Garren, jr; children, Anthony DiCamillo, Alexis DiCamillo, Ashley
Garren and William Garren III; brothers, Alan Colvin and William (Bill) Colvin and her six grandsons,
Randal (Randy), Samuel (Sam), Gideon, Jacob, Levi and Andrew.
