Richard L. Casteel, 84, of Greeley, Colorado, passed to the arms of God, on September 13, 2024, He was a resident of Life Care at the time of his passing. He was born, April 15, 1940, in Sterling, Colorado to Leon and Barbara (Bellinder) Casteel. He graduated from Greeley Central High School, and on January 2, 1961, he married Patricia Deuel at Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Denver, Colorado. They had three children: Edward, Daniel, and Suzanne and were blessed with nearly 60 years of marriage, before Patricia’s passing in November of 2020.
Early in their marriage Richard worked as a meter reader for Greeley Gas Company. He then leased and managed a service station before purchasing the Texaco gas and oil bulk plant in Greeley. The family moved to Windsor in 1977 where Richard began his career in the fire department at Kodak, retiring in 1984 as a result of a work accident.
Throughout Richard’s life, he had an interest in firefighting and fire departments. As a result, he was instrumental in starting the fire station located at Hill-N-Park in Greeley, Colorado, and served as its first Fire Chief. Richard also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and working on puzzles.
Richard is survived by his daughter, Suzanne Casteel of Windsor. Sister-in-law, Colleen Helzer of Greeley, and brother-in-law, Walt Loftus of Eaton. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Patricia, and both of his sons, Edward, and Daniel Casteel, and his grandson, Lane Casteel. Also predeceased by his siblings: Robert and Kenneth, and his sister, Jenneane Bryan.
Memorial Service at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, 1250 7th Street, Windsor, CO., on September 24, 2024. Viewing at 10:00am, and the Recitation of the Rosary at 10:30 am, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am. He will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Greeley.
