Richard Lee Mast, of Greeley, passed away peacefully after a short illness, on Thursday, February 7. He was 81. Rich was born to Lester and Bess (Roth) Mast, on April 11, 1937. On July 30, 1955, Rich married his high school sweetheart, Sharen Smith, in Julesburg.
Rich and Sharen lived in Julesburg, CO, until 1980 and then relocated to Greeley. Sharen passed away in 2015, one week short of their 60th wedding anniversary.
On August 5, 2016, Rich married Glenda Hill, of Greeley.
Surviving are wife Glenda Mast, daughter, Cindy Bragdon (Gary) of Severance, CO, son, Josh Mast (Peggy) of Bloomington, IL; grandson Jeremy Riddle (Jamie) of Erie, CO, granddaughter Heather Gearries (James III), of Greenwood, IN, and grandson Jordan Mast of Greenwood Village, CO; four great grandchildren Elijah, Isaac, and Eliana Riddle of Erie, CO, and James Gearries IV of Greenwood, IN; siblings Stan Mast (Ruth) of Kearney, NE, Lorene Phipps of Concordia, KS., Joan Shaffer of Arvada, CO, and Rod Mast (Cheryl) of Phoenix, AZ; stepchildren Larry Steinbecker (Lori) and Shelly McCarty (Matt); Glenda’s grandchildren Josh, Ariel, and Ian Steinbecker; also surviving are many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
Rich was a strong man of faith, demonstrating an unmatched work ethic that spanned dozens of jobs throughout his life – whatever it took to support his family. He didn’t know a stranger. His love of God and for his family was evident through his daily interactions. He was compassionate to everyone he met. He was exceedingly generous, most often in private, providing to people in need with no expectation for repayment.
Rich loved life and he was always on the ‘go’ including Generations Church and Hearty Souls fellowships; Denver Bronco games (since the 1960’s), winters in Arizona, out for coffee and meals, drives in his beloved truck, and particularly the golf course with his golfing buddies, foremost of whom was wife Glenda, always his golfing partner. Rich lived the mantra “life is a series of little look forward to’s.”
Rich will be greatly missed by family and friends, coast to coast.
