Robert Sage

July 5, 1940 — September 5, 2019

Robert Harold Sage, 79, of Windsor, Colorado, passed away on Thursday 9/5/19, in the company of his loving wife, Bonnie. Born in Pottsville, PA. on July 5, 1940, Robert was the son of George and Eva (Greenawalt) Sage both of Pennsylvannia. Robert Sage was known as Bob or “Sage” depending on the community of friends who knew him.

Sage spent his childhood in Schuylkill Haven Pennsylvania going to grade school in a one room schoolhouse and graduating from Schuylkill Haven High School. Sage received his BS in Education in English and History from Millersville State College in 1962 and taught at Pittsfield High School in Pittsfield, MA while working on his graduate degree in Administration from North Adams College in North Adams, Massachusetts. He later taught at Valley Forge Military Academy and later attended restaurant management school at Rennsauler Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York.

During this time Sage had a beautiful daughter named Samantha Sage. Samantha and husband Douglas Hall have three wonderful children Jacob, Elizabeth Sage, and Samuel who are dearly loved by their grandfather “Pop Pop” and “Nana Bonnie”.

After living in New England Sage pursued a second career in food service and hotel management moving to Estes Park, Colorado; Sante Fe, New Mexico; and Fort Collins, Colorado. He served as the Food Service Director for New Beginnings; Director of Support Services for Columbine Care Systems, and as Director of Support Services at the historic Mountain Empire Hotel currently known as the Armstrong Hotel in Fort Collins, Colorado. It was in Fort Collins that Sage met his wife Bonnie and they married on December 6, 1990 in Bozeman, Montana. Sage and Bonnie loved to cook, travel, and take care of their dogs together. Bonnie and Sage opened their home on holidays and at any time for anyone who might want a meal or conversation. They also spent many happy years at their property in Cherokee Park, Colorado. They shared a special love and friendship together and would have been married 29 years together as of December 6, 2019. Bonnie remained a dedicated wife and advocate while maintaining their strong marriage and friendship throughout his decline in health.

Sage loved his wife Bonnie, his family, his dogs and helping people. He was a good friend and listener, always lending a supportive ear to anyone in need at any time of day or night. Over the years many people have come up to Bonnie and Sage to let them know how much he helped them through the ups and downs of their own lives. Sage always made people laugh. Sage had a great sense of humor and was a great story teller with a knack to make people laugh.

Sage is survived by his beloved wife Bonnie McCrea of Windsor, daughter Samantha Hall, her husband Doug and three grandchildren Jacob, Elizabeth and Sammy all of Shrewsbury, Pennsylvannia; sister Sally Jean and brother-in-law Tony Weisacosky, of Tamaqua, Pennsylvannia and sister-in-law Patricia Ann Sage, of Bozeman, Montana and many friends.
