Virginia Mary (Mielke) Beck passed away in the early morning of February 6, 2021. She was just short of her 85 birthday which would have been April 28th. Virginia resided in Greeley until her death, at the Garden Square Memory Care. Virginia passed away peacefully in her sleep.
A mass will be held March 19, 2021 at Nativity of Our Lord Church in Broomfield, Colorado.
Virginia was born in Elkton, South Dakota on her family farm April 28, 1936. Her parents were Kathryn (Kelly) Mielke and Edward C. Mielke of Elkton South Dakota. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years John Beck, her siblings Edward Mielke, Kathleen Charitat, Allen Mielke, and Charles Mielke. She is survived by her children Carol Singh, David Beck, Roberta Eckdahl; her siblings William Mielke, Gene Mielke, Gatian Sweeney, Dan Mielke; and six grandchildren.
After graduating High School in 1954, she enrolled in Gale Institute of Technology in Minneapolis MN. After graduating from Gale, she worked at the US Navy Department in DC. In May 1959 Virginia was awarded special recognition by the Bureau of Naval Personnel, for “Superior” performance of her supervisory duties with the Officer Placement Branch.
While she was working at the Navy Department, she met John Beck. They were married in Arlington, VA on February 2, 1963. After being married, they settled in Denver and raised their family.
She worked at Nativity of Our Lord Church in Broomfield for many years until retirement. Virginia was an excellent seamstress making clothes and costumes for her children when they were young. Virginia liked to quilt and made them for her family. She was also very good at upholstering furniture and even made a small business of it. Her work was always perfect as she took much pride in it.
Virginia was cremated; a funeral planned for 2:00pm on March 22, 2021 at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
